The Kate is full of matte black cabinet hardware, a trend to look for in 2018.
New year, new trends. With every passing year, styles change. Some come back in style, some stay in the past, and some are timeless. Lucky for us - and you - our interior designer studies up on the latest and greatest trends to give our homeowners a modern, yet classic, home. Lauren is looking forward to these four trends this coming year, and she's sharing it all with you.
The natural wood mantel and floating shelves in The Cedar pops against the dark stained cabinets.
Natural Wood Tones
This is one trend that I love in the right proportion. Natural wood can make a big impact and really warm up a space quickly. I've been seeing this done using mostly white oak since they take stains easily and have a classic, versatile wood grain. I'm particularly loving the idea of juxtaposing a distressed natural oak with white cabinets. I think this type of style balances really well with high contrast palettes to create a polished yet warm and clean look.
A concrete fireplace is the perfect focal point for this Kate floor plan.
Concrete
Concrete is my absolute favorite. It can be used in so many locations in the home to bring a little bit of polish or edge depending on its finish. We've all seen this done on countertops and floors but the trend seems to be rising toward using this around the fireplace in either a board form or smooth. I love that concrete can be manipulated in so many ways to create just about any look. This is truly one of the most versatile materials so I hope this "trend" sticks around for a very long time.
Light fixtures are a great way to add a pop of gold. Too much of a good thing can be overwhelming.
Gold Tones
There are so many names that brands are calling their version of brass or gold but either way you slice it this metallic is here to stay. I love brushed brass tones particularly in lighting and cabinet hardware for its ability to stand-out without being too harsh. The warm undertones and wide variety of gold products make me think that this is only going to get more popular with years to come.
The metal railing compliments the matte black accents throughout the home in this Teton floor plan.
Metal / Matte Black
I lumped these two together because I think they definitely go hand in hand when it comes to trends on the rise. Metal and matte black get me really excited because it only takes a little to make a big impact and I think every space could use a touch of black. My favorite way to use metal right now is for cooktop hoods which is pretty major but if you want to add just a touch to mix it up another great way to do that is with cabinet hardware, plumbing fixtures or lighting.
