When decorating around a fireplace use the rule of three.

The rule of three suggests that things arranged in odd numbers, specifically three, are more appealing to the human eye.

The rule of three works really well when filling space on shelves around your fireplace.

Creating asymmetrical arrangements of vases, books or candleholders in a high, medium, low clusters creates an extra layer of interest especially if the colors and textures are complimentary to other decor in the space.
