We have been receiving a lot of questions about how to mix metals. An impressive chandelier, faucet, or cabinet knobs and pulls that complement surrounding spaces are truly essential. While there is an art to mixing metals well, following a few simple rules make it easier than you think.
Rule #1 - Pull Inspiration From Light Fixtures: Light fixtures are an excellent tool to tie colors from cabinet pulls and the surrounding spaces. Consider these Gesture Pendant lights from Generation lighting to give you an example of how this looks. The gold base and wrap of the light reflect identical tones found on the cabinet pulls, faucet head, and backsplash trim. The neutral shade of the light matches the island countertop, backsplash finish, and even a few of the chairs in the dining area. The result? Rule #2 - Layer Your Colors: The master bathroom in our 2021 Spring Parade Home is the poster-child example of this rule. We began with Sherwin Williams Mount Etna on the cabinets, accented by gold pulls, knobs, and mirror frames. Moving towards the center, we transitioned to a brighter tone, Magnifica Pure White in a herringbone layout, paired with black towel rods and faucets. Layering your metals works well in a bathroom because it provides a clean layout and contributes to an organized feel.
Rule #3 - Select a Tile Floor that Reflects Surrounding Metals: This master bath is incredibly harmonious, orchestrated through the streaked tile on the Bedrosians Magnifica Calacatta Oro tile floor, streaked with the same elements found on the herringbone backsplash grout, faucets, sconces, and towel rods. We love a bright and airy space, but the subtle component of darker accents throughout the room was the icing on the cake.
